Not too good, no. It's amazing what names they've roped in for a pure cash-in like this. Not even an attempt is made to add anything to the concept, something that could set it apart. Apart from the tentacles that is. In any case, you don't have to do it for the horror. There is hardly any. The only real difference with Jaws is that the camera goes underwater more often, but that is precisely where Assonitis ruins the finale. The very clunky soundtrack doesn't help either. What keeps it going is a kind of B charm. But is that meant to be...

What low scores here! However, this is a better work in its genre with animals than most films of today, but also all those sequels and rip-offs after the classic Jaws. The camera work is excellent and the images are beautiful. Visually very strong given the splendor of the film's colors and the underwater images. the octopus itself also looks pretty good and its actions are usually well filmed. The music is also a positive plus. Nice sounds that contribute to a atmospheric film. Only in the final scene things go wrong with bombastic music. What is also surprising is the fact that the body count is quite high, but in terms of horror it is unfortunately a bit tame. Everything could have been a bit bloodier. Also striking is the cast, including Bo Hopkins, John Huston and Fonda, with the latter not having such a major role. The final scene with those orcas was liked and also well shot. Actually never heard of it, but gave it a chance through a tip from a film friend. 7/10

A golden old classic.

Back in my younger years, I thought this was fantastic.

An atmospheric horror film for that time.

With a giant squid attacking swimmers and boats.

And from which all kinds of complications arise.

The film music is also beautiful.

With a world famous cast of leading actors.

The film is slightly outdated, but still a fine and beautiful classic film.
