Those other Tales from the Crypt movies were nice, but unfortunately this is only one story and that's just a bit of a boring story about a motel and some strangers and a relic and demons. Unfortunately this is not my thing.

The more I see this movie, the happier I get. Because what is and remains Demon Knight a wonderful horror. The premise is simple; a group is trapped in a hotel - formerly a church - because William Sadler has a conflict with Billy Zane. The latter is truly a joy to watch, going all out as the charming, over-the-top, goofy Collector, who delivers every line of dialogue with tremendous abandon. But the other cast members - from cult hero Dick Miller, the tough Jada Pinkett Smith, the delightful bastard Thomas Haden Church - are also delightful. The film is like a rollercoaster ride, but one with explosions, swollen gore, flying limbs and countless growling, slimy demons with a dancing Billy Zane between them. Whenever I'm having a bad day, Demon Knight is there to kick me out.

4.5 stars.

Forget the kitschy opening scene where the storyteller (skeleton) introduces the film. Although Peggy Trentini's big boobs may well stay with you. But actually the film manages to come out somewhat surprising. You don't see the entertainment, the humor and the gory coming right away. And the cast also cooperates. For example, Billy Zane is in his element as the collector and the protagonist William Sadler has the necessary charisma. But the rest of the cast is also nice such as Thomas Haden Church who gets to play the annoying egotist, Jada Pinkett Smith as the tough lady, Dick Miller as the uncle, CCH Pounder and Brenda Bakke. A lot of nice characters pass by. There are a lot of cool gory scenes in the film with a touch of humor. A strikingly fun scene, for example, is the dream sequence of uncle who, in the presence of topless ladies, is allowed to order drinks from the collector at the bar where you can recognize Traci Bingham and Chasey Lain. Nice movie ! 7/10
