Suiyô Puremia: Sekai Saikyô J Horâ SP Nihon no Kowai Yoru plot

"Five of Japan's best horror directors race to reach the outer limits of fear..."

The film contains five short stories from Japan. In 'The Spiderwoman', a monstrous spider woman comes to life. In 'Crevices' there are evil cracks in the walls of an apartment. The third movie is called 'The Sacrifice' and follows the story of a mysterious stalker. In 'Blonde Kwaidan' a special book is read and thus another world is opened. And finally, a man encounters three mysterious ghosts in an elevator in 'Presentiment'.

looks nice, varies from good to bad.

-The spiderwoman was okay, although it looked fake but it was a pretty exciting movie. * 3.5

-Crevices, I think the most exciting of the five very mysterious. the small space makes it exciting and the ending was quite creepy. * 3.5

-The sacrifire was the most boring, nothing exciting happened and the plot was really ruined. * 1.5

-Blonde kwaidan was also very special (but in the negative way) almost nothing exciting happened, and the story really made no sense. * 2.0

-Presentiment was also nice, very predictable but still exciting. nice plot, this was the only one with a moral. * 3.0

average: *2.7 so actually * 2.5 but because of those bits with those people on that bus *3.0

* 3.0

Entertaining.

1. The Spiderwoman is funny. Not quite what I expected, more like the Japanese mutant horror than the long-haired ghouls. It's not really great, but it's executed pretty smoothly and funny.

2. Crevices: I found one of the lesser ones. Really average. Doesn't do anything outside the known ghosts. Some hands and stuff that show up. Boring and tame, especially because this film lives on scares that have long since stopped working.

3. Sacrifice is slightly better but a bit too dry. More a light occult story than a film that belongs in this omnibus. Not boring, fortunately all nice and short, but I could have just finished it.

4. Blonde Kwaidan was one of the better ones. The shortest one too, I believe, and that's a good thing because it's not more than a practical joke. Reminiscent of the Shutter crew films in Phobia in that respect. Funny, at least it made me laugh.

5. Presentiment is ultimately the best of the 5. Stylishly filmed and very atmospheric. Very striking that this comes from Ochiai, the only one I hadn't seen yet. Nicely beats the genre pros in their own field.

All in all an entertaining omnibus, especially with the cutscenes (nice bit parts for ugly guy and Ishii-eyebrow too!). It is certainly not grand and / or original, but in itself it is surprising that it is not the same horror trick that is brought up five times.

3.0*

Mediocre horror work consisting of five short films within a bland frame story. It does not amount to much, although the makers occasionally manage to create a scary and alienating atmosphere. However, it is not enough to make it stand out from the crowd.
