Franciosi definitely deserves a better film than this. How annoying can a movie be. Not interesting at all, what lame stuff. Agree with imbd, do yourself a favor, don't watch...

Drizzly, boring horror movie with a cool subject. It is therefore not the fault of the stop motion animation; those scenes are very successful. No, it is mainly the dull, abstractly developed characters that fall short, in combination with an uninteresting script. In the last half hour things get really crazy with a good dose of gore, but by then things can no longer be saved.

The story about stop-motion filmmaker Ella, who lives in the shadow of her overbearing mother, is a story about passion, ecstasy and inner conflicts. These states are captured in disturbing and inspiring images that do something with the viewer's perception. The film dissects Ella's psyche in a dark way and uses all kinds of horror elements such as monsters and body horror. The character Ella is fantastically played by Aisling Franciosi, who I also really liked in The Nightingale (2018).

Director and writer Robert Morgan considers and dissects Ella's inner being and that is a fascinating process. A rather dark inner self is revealed which the film skillfully runs with. The film has an oppressive atmosphere that is emphasized by nightmarish moments that very intensely touch on themes such as corrosive self-doubt and the urge for self-destruction. These are beautiful images that make a great impression. They are also images that have such a prominent place in the film that they leave a stagnant mark on the progress of the story. It is a bit of a slog. Running and standing still. The story ultimately subordinate. Nevertheless, Stopmotion is a fascinating spectacle. The film is simply beautifully constructed.

The artistic way in which the decay of Ella's inner being is depicted is magnificent. The way in which it is done is creative, bizarre, enchanting and utterly fascinating. The story sometimes goes too far under the distracting imagery, but I certainly enjoyed it enough.
