Sortilèges plot
Somewhere in the Cévennes Mountains, a horse merchant who got lost in a snowstorm is brutally murdered and robbed by a magician living there. The latter shares the loot with Fabret, the naive father of Catherine, the girl the magician is in love with. However, the girl loves someone else. The horse of the murdered merchant continues to roam the area until the villagers find his body, after which Fabret is accused of the murder.
