Nothing more than solid.

The horror scene has been in a really bad state lately. Films like this have been considered mediocre highlights for some time now. They're not terribly bad, but the cheapness is too obvious, and they fail to deliver anything original.

It's nothing more than a variation on the age-old Saw concept. Granted, Redd Inc. puts an interesting spin on it, but in terms of execution, it's largely ignored. One ringmaster, six people kidnapped and imprisoned, and a few twists that all fall flat.

Visually underwhelming. While the gore is okay, the camerawork and lighting are truly poor. The acting is also unwatchable; only Nicholas Hope seems to know what he's doing. The soundtrack could have been good, but it's poorly utilized.

What we're left with is a rather mediocre film. Plenty of potential for a fun little horror, but it doesn't quite pan out. I have a feeling it'll be a long wait until the next horror revival.

2.5*

Fun. But phew, these kinds of movies look so pathetic. It has to rely almost entirely on its concept, with a bit of gore here and there (with Savini as both a supervisor and a supporting role). But the biggest draw is Nicholas Hope, who delivers a memorable performance. It's not made any better by such a lame twist that only leads to a (too) long ending. "Nice to see it once," you might say... but I just want more than that.

An interesting premise is somewhat limited by a lack of atmosphere and tension, and the acting by most of the cast is rather poor. The only name who truly makes a difference is Nicholas Hope, but he's given by far the most space. Director Daniel Krige also impresses with his use of graphic violence and experiments effectively with practical effects, but the space between each murder is too wide and uninteresting. As a result, the central concept essentially loses its impact after about 30 minutes, leaving the viewer huffing and puffing to make it through the final minutes.
