I had a great time with The Screen at Kamchanod (aka Pee Chang Nag) - a horror story from Thailand. We follow Dr. Yut's team, who are investigating a mysterious event a few years ago: at a film screening in the jungle, at a temple in Kamchanod, ghosts were spotted and people disappeared, according to the few available sources. Yut, his girlfriend, and his colleagues have managed to track down the film and start investigating. During the team's first screening of the film, things indeed turn out to be fishy: from then on, they see all sorts of apparitions, ghosts, and mysterious happenings, and this, of course, doesn't please everyone on the team. This middle section does, however, pull out all the stops with the clichéd spooky effects and jump scares we're familiar with from many other films (and especially from that era).

But despite the fact that there are indeed fewer original ideas, and despite the actors being no better than average, it's still enjoyable to watch. It's a fun, mysterious story that ultimately builds to an expected yet fitting climax: a new screening of the film at Kamchanod. I think many people who have some affinity for (Asian) horror, and aren't completely averse to J-horror-style films (think Ju-on, Ringu), will have a great evening with The Screen at Kamchanod. I certainly had a great time.

Was another nice Thai horror movie.

And it was also nice to have ordered a stack of Asian horror movies again after all these years. This certainly wasn't bad, although I do notice I've grown out of some things. The story is still a bit thin. We follow a group preparing for a film screening in the mystical Kamchanod temple in Thailand. The previous crew was possessed by ghosts, and soon the new crew also starts seeing ghosts during the planning phase. And yes... the film almost seems to make a point of it. Almost every minute a ghost or a jump scare appears. Sometimes it was enjoyable, but at a certain point it felt a bit dull. There's also a poignant relationship drama in between... and a pretty strong ending.

Not bad, but a bit too focused. Still, entertaining; with some goosebump-inducing moments.

3.5*

A slightly ridiculous Thai horror film about a mysterious film screening in the Kamchanod Forest Reserve, for an unseen audience, where ghosts are said to appear. The main problem is that the film isn't scary; the timing of the jump scares is poor, and the scary moments are so obvious that they mainly serve as laughs. Finally, the acting isn't great either.
