Karada Sagashi: The Last Night plot

It's been three years since Asuka found all eight body parts of the girl Haruka and disappeared before the eyes of her childhood friend, Takahiro. A new group of high school students awakens at midnight in an amusement park, only to be murdered by a girl covered in blood. When they awaken, the group realizes they have been chosen to participate in the deadly search game. There, they encounter Takahiro, who has been searching for Asuka for three years. They decide to join forces to solve the game and escape the time loop.

It makes no sense. Those who get devoured by the Yokai don't come back, but Takahiro just comes back in this sequel.
Asuka solves the case as the sole survivor, but now she is the victim herself. She died at the age of eight, but in the realm of the dead, she is just an older teenager.
And Takahiro still remembers their affair, even though that entire history has been erased.
It is also a mystery to me why the red people keep trying to kill the kids, don't they want their body parts put back together?
Admittedly, this sequel is faster-paced than the first part, and this time the kids try to devise a survival strategy during the daytime hours instead of just going to the beach or forging romantic and friendship bonds.

It is always dangerous territory when making a sequel to concepts like this, although director Eiichirô Hasumi does his very best to give it an original twist. The problem is that the exaggerated acting and the heavy addition of fantasy elements frequently turn it into a tiresome concoction. Visually, The Last Night looks decent and there is plenty of blood, but the drama doesn't work at all and the second half is actually too ridiculous for words. By the time the ending approaches with a lot of bombast and sentimental events, as a viewer you have essentially tuned out long ago.
