Very poor 'slasher', very cheap looking, sometimes a low-budget film is straightened out elsewhere, here it is slack fare across the board. Mn 3/10 is really still generous though.

A film that wraps up current themes such as internet stalking and sexually motivated misconduct in a classic college slasher with (of course) a masked stranger who brutally molests his victims. It is not the case that the theme plays an essential or critical role. Rather, the themes come up because they are an obvious part of student life.

When you look at it, you suffer. Chats regularly appear on screen that provide additional visual support for the narrative element. The chats are not an essential part of the story or a valuable addition. It's nice embellishments that distracted me and eventually started to irritate me. A rather aimless visual exercise that is characteristic of the film as a whole. The film has no depth or sense. The whodunit aspect of the film is therefore also not fascinating. At the end it is completely uninteresting to know who the killer is and why he has started killing.

So the coat rack means very little. What about the kills that make up the very raison d'être of a slasher? They're not very impressive either. The kills are rushed off lovelessly. Barely a meaningful build-up and therefore the tension is never tight. The kills are over before you know it. Moreover, they are not very explicit. They are like the story. Sterile and meaningless.

Initiation is a mediocre, unexciting and uninspiring film.

Pretty okay for a Slasher. Not really original, but that's not a slasher. I was curious about the culprit, I didn't see this one coming.
