Baghead plot

"Talk to the dead. Pay the price."

After the death of her estranged father, Iris is told that she has inherited his old, neglected pub. However, she does not know that in the basement of the building lives Baghead, a shapeshifting creature that can transform into the dead. Iris gets the idea to reunite desperate, grieving people with their loved ones for a fee. For example, widower Neil is willing to pay EUR 2,000 in cash for just a few minutes with his deceased wife. They soon discover that breaking the two-minute rule can have terrifying consequences. Together with her best friend Katie, Iris must fight to control Baghead before he destroys them.

Nice horror film, but fans who are convinced that loud noises do not guarantee an exciting experience will have little use for it. Director Alberto Corredor makes frequent use of loud scares and a high volume, but for me personally it turned out to be effective. Baghead also has plenty to offer on the side, such as rock-solid acting and neat cinematography. On a conceptual level, the content also offers plenty of original perspectives, despite the fact that they often appear a bit messy. A little more work could have been done on the overall tension build-up to possibly reduce the cheap effect, but otherwise Corredor does what it has to do and delivers an entertaining horror work. It's nice to be able to really get scared in the cinema again.

Baghead

This movie started off strong, but...

The concept is cool and reminded me a bit of Talk To Me, but instead of the hand we are now dealing with a Baghead. As said, the beginning was promising. A young girl named Iris inherits an old bar in Germany from her late father, but she soon finds out that she doesn't live there alone. There is a deceased witch living in the basement and she is now connected to her. This witch can make the dead speak again, but it is dangerous and there are rules attached to it.

This is a very cool concept, but unfortunately for me the film goes in the wrong direction. The film becomes predictable and boring. I had hoped that more people would want her help, but they chose to continue with Neal's story. They could also have gone a little deeper into that witch. Furthermore, I did not find the main characters interesting enough, partly due to a lack of depth. There was also hardly any tension and unfortunately jumscares were used that you could see coming from a mile away. Kind of similar to The Nun. The CGI still worked.

Too bad, there could have been more.

2.5 stars.

Absurd horror film about a witch [Anne Müller] who was walled up in a cellar hundreds of years ago because she can transform into dead people. Owen Lark [Peter Mullan] managed the pub in Berlin where this witch is located and used her gift to give people the chance to speak to a loved one again for a fee. When he dies in a fire, he hands the pub over to his daughter Iris [Freya Allan], who lives in London. She doesn't know anything until a desperate customer [Jeremy Irvine] knocks on her door. Trite scares in a horror that is mainly strange, not terrifying.
