It is striking that the score draws inspiration from the old organ playing like you had in old silent [horror] films.

It fits the image perfectly, which nevertheless exudes the atmosphere as if it were filmed some 30 years earlier.

Barbara Steele as a blonde doesn't quite work, but she completely makes up for it by parading around as a terrifying ghost.

Effective, minimalist, and atmospheric. The dialogue is on the sparse side, but as mentioned, it exudes a gothic atmosphere from a time long ago.

The middle section, in which the Baron remarries his wife's sister, is a bit on the long side. The beginning, however, is very strong, in which we immediately see the Baron's true nature. Furthermore, the organ-focused soundtrack adds quite a bit, and the filmmaker succeeds in providing a deliciously macabre conclusion.
I do find it a bit of a shame that Steele is dyed blonde for most of the film, as I have always found her beautiful, long black locks so characteristic.
