"I did not bring you freedom, but I already found here among all of you."
The film tells the life story of George Kastrioti Scanderbeg, the national hero of the Albanians, from his captivity by the Ottoman Turks to his return to his country to organize a fierce resistance against the oppression of the Albanians. After converting from Islam to Christianity, he led a heroic resistance for more than 30 years, preventing the world's largest empire from invading Albania.

Grandly conceived as you would expect from a Soviet co-production. Albania's national hero Skanderbeg could also be hoisted onto a statue after his name was besmirched by the SS division during World War II. Historically speaking, there is little to criticize about this biopic. No propaganda, unless it is the opponents, the Turks, Venetians and Serbs who are somewhat ridiculed. For example, the role of the later sultan Mehmed II is very comical. And the Serbian despot Branković played a bad role in the coalition against the Turks. A downside is the skipping of many battles, but the siege of Krujë (1450) more than makes up for this.
