Les Misérables plot

Jean Valjean has just been released from prison after serving years for a petty crime. With a new identity as a respected industrialist, he attempts to find redemption. His path crosses that of the terminally ill worker Fantine, who persuades him to care for her daughter Cosette, who is being abused by a family. She ends up in his care, but Valjean is kept under close watch by Commissioner Javert.
