"She Got What She Wanted... With Lies... With Kisses... With Murder!"
One night on a deserted highway, a passing car throws a suitcase with a bundle of money into Jane and Alan Palmer's car, when it was not intended for them. Alan wants to give the money to the police, but Jane convinces him to keep it "for now". Not long after, the Palmers are chased by one Danny Fuller, who claims it's his money.

Fascinating and exciting film noir, clearly presented and without a lot of supporting roles, which are not always useful in the plot.
Striking, spicy points in the intrigue are, for example the fact that Alan does not trust his wife Jane at all, as witnessed by the trick with the safe deposit of the suitcase, and also the figure of culprit Danny Fuller who, unusually, is not a strong, tough gangster. turns out to be but rather a booze-addicted loser.. I am less happy than the romantic smile on sister Kathy's face in the final scene when she just learned that her brother was drowned in the lake.
In any case, an excellent Lizabeth Scott is more than a femme fatale. Saw her already in "Dead Reckoning" and "Pitfall", both from the same period and both recommended for fans of the genre.
I haven't seen a single film by director Byron Haskin before, but based on the ratings of his films, here, at Moviemeter, this "Too late for Tears" is his best work.

Nice film in which a couple have different ideas about a bag of money that they get. An entertaining plot with quite a few twists. However, the whole thing revolves a bit too much about the plot itself. For example, the main character (an opportunistic femme fatale) could have been developed better (despite a fine role by Lizabeth Scott).

Lizabeth Scott looks like a victim on the poster. But despite the fact that she really gets hit, she is indeed the perpetrator and a lot worse than Dan Duryea. The appeal (and also somewhat campiness of this film is that middle class housewife Scott is so blinded by money that she starts killing and loses all her morality a somewhat campy ending in which Scott stumbles over the stolen money and meets her death.
This film that was somewhat forgotten (no success, no big studio, low budget) was then refurbished by the fine people of the Film Noir Foundation.
