A timeless film that can also be seen as a time document: the scene in which Dorothy leaves a dusty country road in moody sepia with a few belongings and her dog is a moving reference to life during 'The Great Depression' and in the so-called 'Dust Bowl' in particular. Garland was actually a little too old for the part, but she's the ultimate Dorothy and she's surrounded by top talent. The blossoming friendship between her, Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion feels real and that's a huge achievement, especially as the actors tried to take each other's limelight. The sets are beautiful, the Technicolor sublime. the casting of 'little people' as The Munchkins hits the mark [although there are also a few young children on display], but it's Frank L. Baum's simple yet inspiring story and the unforgettable songs of Arlen and Harburg that make this film so timeless. Not to be missed, a joy to watch from start to finish and 'Over The Rainbow' is one of the most moving songs ever made.

“Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more.”

Perhaps the most influential and best-known classic ever made. From the story to certain movie quotes, and from the music to the direction and sets. Even today, The Wizard of Oz is a film that leaves its mark. Of course it sometimes looks a bit dated and not everything works equally well, but it's great that it doesn't really disturb for a moment. The film exudes fun and energy. That's also because of the actors, and especially Garland, Haley and Lahr put on a great performance.
