Boring action horror vehicle in which director Riccardo Chemello puts a lot of energy, but does not get much further than foolishness. The opening in particular, in which everything explodes and a true explosion of colours is thrown at the camera, is more tiring than aesthetic. Eventually, some experiments are done with location choice, computer effects and relationship development, but this has little effect. The only one who manages to give his role some colour is Stuart Martin, the other members are mainly annoying and drown in caricatural actions. Wade Briggs transforms from con man to hero much too quickly and Frida Gustavsson is a boring appearance as his co-star. The action scenes in between are also very boring due to a flood of inadequate fantasy elements and the finale is unfortunately full of them. I have rarely seen such clichéd content performed in such a drunken way and that is certainly not a compliment. Points for a lot of bombast and Martin's character, otherwise this is an endurance challenge.

I was still hoping for a run-of-the-mill horror movie full of clichés, but still with enough entertainment to enjoy a movie on Netflix in between. Dampyr - Vampyr by someone who can't write well - has become an extremely bad movie. Without charm, talent and with incredibly bad effects. To think that the movie was also nominated at the David di Donatello Awards, the Italian version of the Oscars. The list of alternative candidates must have run out.

Finally, on Saturday we'll have a little scare with this otherwise rather unknown Dampyr on Netflix, which in any case impresses with a beautiful film poster.

And it must be said that after the vague opening with the necessary Hocus Pocus the film does start reasonably well with a nice setting in the middle of the civil war, grim images in that sense, an interesting character in the form of Kurjak and quite soon the threat of something strange in the village. In addition, we can count on a few attractive vampires and we see The Guv'nour as the bigger bad guy in a story that has the necessary of Brothers Grimm and the whole is in the right way gray, dark and moody and the action may be called at certain moments.

But that's about it, within a film that never gets very exciting, rambles on a bit, there are a number of dialogues and flashbacks to give the whole depth, something that doesn't work, it's all quite cliché and Dampyr suffers the most pain from Dampyr himself. Because Wade Briggs is too much of a lightweight to add anything to the character of Harlan Drake. He's just not interesting within a film that itself is not or becomes worth mentioning. That's why this Dampyr is reasonable for once but really no more than that and there is no sufficient in it because it is too thin while in my opinion there was a lot more in it.
