Tjorven, Båtsman och Moses plot
During the holiday months, the writer Melker Melkersson stays with his children (daughter Malin and sons Johan, Niklas and Pelle) on the island of Saltkrakan on the Swedish coast. Pelle is best friends with Tjorven, the robust daughter of the local grocer, her inseparable Saint Bernard dog Båtsman and with little Stina, granddaughter of Söderman, a local fisherman. When Tjorven van Vesterman, another resident of the tiny village, receives a seal, she is king. She renamed the seal Moses. However, Vesterman is told that such a seal can bring in quite a bit of money and demands Moses back. Tjorven refuses and hides Moses - with the help of Pelle and Stina - in an abandoned fishing hut.
