Red Dog plot

"He's Been Everywhere Mate."

This family drama shows the impact a stray dog has on the lives of a group of rough miners. Red Dog brings a community together during a time when a small remote town grows into a major mining town. Red Dog comes to town for the first time when he's smart enough to hitch a ride through the Australian backcountry. In turn, Red Dog instills courage in some men, saves the lives of others, and offers a comforting ear when it's most needed. Although the miners love him, the managers of the trailer park where they all live try to chase Red Dog away. Ultimately, he will have to face his nemesis, Red Cat.

I have this movie in my personal top ten so it's about time for a few words.

What a beautiful movie this is!! All my senses, never knew I had 5, but watching this movie activated them all at once. One could feel, smell, see, hear and even taste the red sand of the Australian landscape. It gave me such a good and euphoric feeling that I seriously considered dumping my girlfriend, quitting my job, selling my house and emigrating to Australia.

And then the protagonist, the dog Red Dog. Let's face it, his dialogues are negligible but glow gods, the things he doesn't say are genius. Mimicry, charisma and extremely cuddly make him the ideal opponent. The showdown between Red and the pussycat may already go down in the books as the most memorable moment in movie history. Similar to Once Upon a time in the West where Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda test each other's reflexes.

Yes, really enjoyed this movie. Some people here like Hachiko better but Crikey, it really isn't mate !!

Nice film in which a dog without an owner is taken in by a small community of guest workers. Rather fragmentary in scope and the true story is rather predictable. The film does look fairly fresh because of the smooth editing and the location (Australia). A small 3.0 stars.

Well-intentioned but too sentimental and at times rather forced comic 'true-life' Australian film about the impact a stray dog has on the lives of a group of rough miners. Comparisons with peer Hachi are lurking, although that film is infinitely better as far as I'm concerned. The sympathetic cast does their best, but it's only towards the end, when the story takes a more dramatic turn, that the film hits the right note as far as I'm concerned.
