William MacLure is a doctor in the small village of Drumtochty in the Scottish Highlands. One day, Farmer Milton comes to him with a collie named Lassie. Lassie is afraid of water and that makes her unsuitable for herding sheep. MacLure is actually not very happy with the dog, but still gives him a solid education. And when he falls off his horse on his way to a patient and lies unconscious in the snow, Lassie shows that the trust her owner has in her is justified.
