Het Zakmes plot

Mes has a problem. He accidentally took his boyfriend's pocket knife. When he wants to return the knife, Mees is too late. After all, Tim just moved. The only thing Mees knows is that Tim now lives in Flevoland. Mees's parents have no time for his problems. His mother is a world famous singer who he mainly knows from television. His father is too busy with his popular wife and the household. So there is no other option for Mees: he has to look for Tim all by himself.

The Pocket Knife is a kind of youth sentiment. Although I was about 17 years old when I first saw the film, I thought it was a nice film at the time. I saw the film again after that, but that was more than ten years ago. Yesterday morning the film happened to be on television and I remembered everything well.

The film shows in a very strong way how children think and that they can sometimes be smarter than adults in their own way. The atmosphere is lovely. Mees is well played by Olivier Tuinier and his father is also doing very well. The household is very messy, but a little eggnog on the television is not difficult.

In the end, Mees's idea is genius to let his boyfriend Tim know that he still has his pocket knife. Even as an adult, this film is still extremely enjoyable and it was also very nice to see this film again after all these years.

3.5* remain easy.

Oh, what a sweet movie this was! It's been years since I watched The Pocket Knife, but now that I've reviewed the film, I don't think the film has lost any of its charm. The story is very palpable for children, I think, which is also something different from the children's films you see these days. It's true that we don't all have a world-famous opera singer for a mother or a father who drops standard food on the television, but relocating friends and a not-so-nice teacher are very common things. I think The Pocket Knife is just the right mix of adventure and everyday situations. Every now and then you have to take an unbelievable plot element for granted, but we like to do that. Olivier Tuinier is astonishingly talented for someone his age and effortlessly steals the heart of every viewer, I imagine. Especially his sometimes skipping voice is just too touching... The film has the occasional song, which I can always appreciate. All in all, despite its age, The Pocket Knife is still a very enjoyable film for young children - and of course for adults with youthful sentiment.
