Dog's Best Friend plot

When twelve-year-old Wylie Thompson (Adam Zolotin) has to live with his grandfather and grandmother on the farm for six months, he is terribly disappointed. No TV, no restaurants and, what bothers him most, goes to bed early. The first night, Wylie sees a flash of light caused by a meteorite. The next morning, Wylie discovers the result: he can talk to animals!
