Die Sterntaler plot
Four years ago, the king had the adult inhabitants of a village, all weavers, kidnapped to work in his service to pay off their tax debt. The elderly and children now live alone in abject poverty. One day the tax collector comes to ask for more money, which, however, cannot be paid by the inhabitants. The village elder asks two boys to go to the king and ask for forgiveness. When they refuse, little Mina jumps in.
