Die Gänsemagd plot
A king's daughter, now orphaned, is about to be married off to a prince from a neighboring country. During the trip to that country, her chambermaid suggests putting on each other's clothes and jokingly assuming each other's identities. However, it turns out to be a ruse of the chambermaid, when on arrival nobody really believes that the king's daughter is indeed the king's daughter. The chambermaid marries the prince and the king's daughter gets a job at the castle as a goose herder. She finds comfort in her faithful horse and in the evening she tells her story again and again against the flames in the stove of her little room. What she doesn't know is that her voice thus reaches the ears of someone who is slowly but surely beginning to believe her.
