A number of gay artists struggle to get bread on the table. Sam is unemployed and dreams of a career as a singer of old GDR songs. He and his boyfriend split up. His new 'lover', the attractive Rainer, is not exactly loyal. Sam's best friend Bastl is an alcoholic, acts as a transvestite and falls in love with Mike, a prankster and painter by trade, but without success. A car accident brings Sam and Rainer closer together.
