Xian Hun Nu plot
Xiang owns a mill where sesame oil is pressed. The oil is of such high quality that even Japan is interested in it. Business is prospering in all respects, but privately she only experiences misery. She was born in the countryside and married off at a young age. Her husband is a weakling and an alcoholic, who beats and rapes her. Their eldest son is mentally handicapped, their daughter is waiting for marriage according to tradition. Xiang compensates for the daily lovelessness with a lover. She eventually finds a wife for her retarded son for a lot of money. This girl, Huanhuan, gradually becomes aware of their fate. At the hands of her mother-in-law, who once suffered the same fate herself, she is forced to marry a sick, mentally handicapped son.
