Wir Sind das Volk - Liebe Kennt Keine Grenzen plot
East Berlin, August 1983. The teacher Katja Schell secretly says goodbye to her friend, the photographer Andreas Wagner. Together with Katja's brother Matthis, Andreas wants to escape over the wall to West Berlin at night, because of his dissident activities and intimidation towards the GDR. The plan is that Katja will follow them as soon as possible. But their love for freedom costs both men dearly: Matthis dies from a bullet fired by a border guard, the seriously wounded Andreas barely reaches the other side of the wall. However, he does not know that Katja is expecting his child.
