1649. In poverty and unrest, a group of poor men and women known as the diggers form a settlement on St George's Hill. Inspired by the visionary leadership of Gerrard Winstanley, they seek to cultivate their right and demand the common land's share of the wealth. They face crushing hostility from the local landowners and government forces.
