What If God Were the Sun? plot

Jamie Spagnoletti (Lacey Chabert) is a cynical nurse who tries to balance a tough job with grandiose wedding plans. However, her world collapses when her father is brought in to the emergency room and dies while Jamie is working on another patient. Unable to cope with her grief, she runs into trouble at work and with her fiancé Jeff (Sam Trammell). Jamie is transferred to another ward at the hospital, where she meets Melissa (Gena Rowlands), a terminally ill woman who wants to end her life in style. Despite her illness, Melissa is full of humor and confidence. This makes a big impression on Jamie, who is still grieving, who learns to give meaning to her own life again.
