Way Down East plot

"The Great American Melodrama!"

Anna Moore (Rochelle Hudson) knocks on the door of the Bartlett family farm, hoping to get a job. The young son, David (Henry Fonda) falls in love with Anna, but his father wants him to marry someone else. Anna is accepted, but soon rumors spread that Anna is not who she says she is and that she has a dark past.
