Wake in Fright plot

John Grant returns to Sydney after a year of teaching at a one-class school in the wilderness. Shortly after departure, he runs into a kangaroo and is stranded in a small mining town, waiting for his car to be repaired. The town is full of drunken and strange men who are only concerned with beer, sex, gambling and hunting. After a misplaced guess, the cash-strapped teacher realizes he's completely at the mercy of the scum.
