"Mi and A Phu"
During the First Indochina War, young Mi is kidnapped by the son of a local landlord in northwestern Vietnam to serve as a bride. Mi settles into a routine of abuse and domestic misery. Her life finds new meaning when she meets A Phu, a defiant villager who has been enslaved by the landlord after an altercation. When A Phu faces the death penalty for carelessness, Mi decides to run away with him.
