Biography about the man whose life is generally believed to have given rise to the legend of the vampire Count Dracula. Fifteenth-century Romanian nobleman Vlad Tepes deftly defended his homeland of Wallachia against the far superior Ottoman Empire, led by Mohammed II. He did not proceed gently and had criminals and opponents impaled on stakes.
