Vingt-Quatre Heures de la Vie d'une Femme plot

1917. While staying at Lake Lugano in a luxury hotel, Alice Scotland, widow of an English lord, spends her time going to concerts and walking with his family, a grandmother and her granddaughter. One evening, in the gaming room of the casino, Alice observes a young player whose trembling hands indicate a terrible inner excitement. Having squandered and lost all his money, the young man hurries out of the casino and disappears. Alice impulsively chases after him. He wants to kill himself, but she can take his revolver from him and calm him down. And then the young stranger reveals his identity. He was a deserter from the Austrian Army and was heavily indebted to his family. He was at his wits' end and had hoped to earn the money back by gambling.
