Variasies op 'n Tema plot

Like many descendants of South African World War II veterans, Ouma Hettie waited in vain for the compensation her father deserved for his loyal service to the state. Out of the desperation of veteran families, a new kind of fraud has arisen, preying on the hope of a long-promised compensation. Hettie, too, is caught in this trap. For almost eighty years, she has lived in the shadow of the Kamiesberg Mountains, herding goats and living in close contact with the land, resulting in great perseverance.
