Vanitas plot

What is the meaning of life at a contemporary Japanese university? School friends Shibihara, Ito, Tachibana, and Nagai seem to have days that only come alive during their constant basketball games, while their classes have become a source of boredom and indifference. On the court, we see their cheerfulness and strength, but is this all life has to offer? What has happened in their lives that has left them stuck in their youth?
