Unthinkable plot

45-year-old homicide detective Jamie McDowell is a tough and smart cop who has raised her 23-year-old son alone since her husband, also a cop, was killed on the job. Despite being emotionally involved, Jamie investigates the violent murder of 21-year-old Kelly, the wild and rambunctious daughter of her neighbor and best friend Susan. Kelly's ex-boyfriend Rick, a violent boy with a heavy criminal past, is the ideal suspect. But during the frantic investigation, Jamie is shocked to discover that the killer is none other than her son, who has been dating Kelly for a few weeks. She arrests him for the murder, but then she's given an even harder task: trying to keep her son Peter off death row.
