After American jockey Danny Arnold cheats on unscrupulous gambler Louis Bork, he flees to Italy with his loving son Joe. Joe knows nothing about his father's lies and corrupt behavior. While visiting France, Dan begins an affair with a beautiful French nightclub singer and buys a racehorse with problems that no one can dress. Joe sees a future for the horse as a show jumper and, after Danny retrains the horse, it wins many competitions. Then gambler Bork shows up and forces Danny to lose. Danny comes into conflict with his conscience and Joe's trust in him.
