It was in urgent need of revision after 2½ years. Still one of the most heartbreaking movies I've ever seen. The class of the director and of the actors drips from it. Film remains rock solid in my Top 10.

My second Christian Faure movie. What a terribly moving and heartbreaking drama. It's just incomprehensible... What godforsaken beastly things they have done to people. I know a lot of gay men and they are all champs and very peaceful. I experienced a lot of the film clenched throat and at the end I really couldn't hold back my tears. A top movie! Unfortunately, in certain parts of the world, human rights are still violated. Viewed from the dark side of man, this will unfortunately never stop completely.........

Excellent war drama about the persecution of the Jews, but more specifically also about other inferior people such as homosexuals in France, in which the Pétain regime was eager to please the Germans during WWII. Fascinating plot also in which the love triangle between the two brothers and Sarah is central, further expanded with Philippe who literally stands between Sarah and Jean.

The lives of the four characters are all in all prosperous despite Jacques' past and the sad events that Sarah already endured during the war. Of course it will continue to be vigilant. Jacques is teetering on the edge of collaboration with the Germans, but is already enriching himself on the cover of the victims. However, a somewhat jealous impulsive move turns out to be wrong and two plot lines converge, sending Jean to a concentration camp.

Life in the camps was horrific. lobotomy is also discussed. Strong ending too, with the Lavandier family coming out of the war broken and disillusioned. A strong film that will stay with you for a while. Good plot and good acting, handsome!
