a wonderful film that draws you in more and more and makes you feel more and more uncomfortable; after an entertaining, action-packed start, it becomes less and less sharp; the kind of films where you never forget scenes.

Impressive and intense war drama. Max denies himself several times in order to survive: on the train he denies being Rudy's friend, he has sex with a girl on command, in the camp he prefers to pass as a Jew rather than gay. His will to survive is enormous, but his self-respect and dignity are gone. Horst shows him that real love is invincible, even if you are not allowed to touch or look at each other. Max finally breaks at the sad end of the film, he has lost two lovers in a dramatic way in a short time, but has regained his self-respect and dignity......

War only has losers, no winners... I still don't understand why this war happened... Humiliating, abusing, torturing and killing people to the core...

ps I watched the English version with German subtitles, the film could have been even more compelling if German had been spoken!

What a monstrosity of a film, from decadent sex scenes to Nazi concentration camp horror, how do you come up with it?
I have nothing against gays, but the combination of a kind of promotion of homosexuality on the one hand and Nazi atrocities at the same time is too stupid for words.
Apparently it must seem impressive to have 2 men who have to carry stones as a kind of pointless torture, simultaneously tell each other explicit sex scenes as a fantasy because they are not allowed to touch each other, this scene is too stupid for words , flat portrayal of sex that does not belong in a serious film , if it had been a straight couple it would have been just as stupid .
Furthermore, it is technically a worthless product, the uniforms are completely inaccurate, the Germans speak English and the locations are laughable, the location chosen for the camp alone is so amateurish, an abandoned factory building as a camp, the makers would say should be ashamed of themselves.
Finally, this addition to show how historically bad this film is, no German would dream of being elected as a Jew rather than as a gay, he would have signed his death sentence, even seriously Rohm was gay and everyone knew it but it was accepted
