What a beautiful movie this is. Rutger Hauer plays his part so well, and I also love Monique van de Ven in this film. There's a lot of sex in it, that's not my thing, but when I look through that, I think it's a beautiful film with a strong story, a strong cast and a lot of emotions. It contains humor and sadness, pleasure and tragedy, a laugh and a tear. I think the film is well balanced and a pearl of Dutch soil. I haven't read the book by the way. The filming makes me curious... 4,5*

Excellent film about a young couple who fall in love and get married. This love drama is beautiful in its open-mindedness and rawness with which it is portrayed as a whole. Of course, this best-attended Dutch film ever can now also be seen as a primal Dutch time document. Funny at times, but also touching. Rutger Hauer and Monique van de Ven have excellent chemistry together.

Half a star in the review.

One of the great classics from Dutch cinema, based on a literary classic. Never seen before for some reason. Prioritized today before shoving it into a corner again. A drama about a free-spirited couple who go through life frolicking, dancing and jumping. The film radiates the rebellion of this time, in which old values are run amok and young people live their lives the way they want. It is on the verge of bad taste, somewhat typical of Dutch films: zooming in on vomit and excrement, and a rape scene provide a provocative touch. But every country has these kinds of classics. So I could not separate this film from the French "Les Valseuses", not coincidentally from the same years. I found the flat, poorly developed character of Erik Vonk to be a downside. No parents, no friends (except for that doctor), no past. Seems like he just stands for something in the movie. The ending is gripping and shimmering; everything is temporary in life. Live in the moment, live each day like it might be your last.... No regrets; strongly acted by Hauer and Van de Ven, and summarizes the life-enjoying attitude of the Dutchman in a mischievous anarchic way.
