To the Ends of the Earth plot

Edmunt Talbot, a young aristocrat, travels to Australia to take up an administrative position there. He boards a wooden warship that is populated by officers, sailors and passengers. Command is in the hands of the downright hostile Captain Anderson. It is a grueling and dangerous crossing, and soon tensions on the overcrowded ship run high. Anderson doesn't like the aristocratic Edmund. The conflicts on the ship and the encounter with the people as the radical freethinker Mr. Prettiman ensure that Edmund's view of the world is changed forever.
