"Some people are just dying to be heard."

Jake Taylor is a popular kid at school with a beautiful girlfriend and a basketball scholarship. Roger Dawson, on the other hand, has nothing. No friends, no hope. They were best friends as children, but high school pulled them apart. Now Roger doesn't belong anywhere - not even Jake. After Roger's tragic death, Jake begins to question everything, and most importantly, he can't help but wonder whether he could have saved Roger.

Somewhat "smooth", not without clichés, rather long-winded and leading to a happy ending , but the film has the merit of showing how ignoring someone (which is actually as much as bullying) can lead to dramas can lead to, how difficult it is to deal with feelings of guilt and how the will to have a more meaningful relationship can be thwarted by the realities of life.
Certainly well-intentioned, this film is one of the better ones in the category of "teen films".
Thought the young people acted well.

“What good is all this if you're not going to let it change you?”

If you ignore the exaggerated religious undertone and the last part that is very much aimed at a happy ending, To Save a Life is a film that certainly manages to impress. Some heavy topics are ignored far too easily (suicide, teenage pregnancy, self-mutilation, parental divorce), but the story about a teenager who, due to a dramatic event, evaluates his egocentric life and wants to be more open to new things and people makes an impression.

Strong acting also by the young actors, and religion is important but does not play a major role (except for the last part). I'm happy with that, and ultimately To Save a Life also has a strong message. Don't live too much in your own bubble, but also be open to new people and experiences. Quite relevant in 2018.

The permanently unsympathetic Randy Wayne constantly gets himself into trouble and always blames it on someone else, including God himself. Director Brian Baugh immediately makes it difficult for himself to build sympathy for his main character(s), after all, they cause many of the problems themselves. The vicious way in which Wayne in particular sometimes does this only causes more anger than understanding in the viewer. Nevertheless, the film runs at a decent pace and is easily interesting, even though the screenplay by Baugh and co-screenwriter Jim Britts piles up every conceivable cliché. Deja Kreutzberg is also quite striking in terms of acting, and I also thought the message behind the film was excellent. Some people find support in religion and there is nothing wrong with a film like this making a message about that, in my opinion (unless it is pushy and non-subtle). It's all too predictable and exaggerated to really make an impression, but thanks to the full flow, the two hours pass quickly.
