During the early days of independence in eastern India, in 1947, an indigenous rebel takes a hotel full of British and Americans hostage. Steve Gibbs is an arms dealer who only thinks about his own skin. A run-in with an Indian pacifist leader and the fact that he falls in love with the daughter of an English missionary lead him to sign up as a mercenary. Therefore, he becomes involved in the hostage-taking of the Westerners.
