They Were Sisters plot
At the end of the 1930s, three different sisters each lead their own lives: Vera is a modern independent woman who deliberately rejects a long-term stable relationship in favor of short-lived, but exciting encounters. Charlotte is the exact opposite: she works herself to pieces and is humiliated into submission and alcoholism by her sadistic husband Geoffrey. The third sister Lucy tries to make up for Charlotte by acting as a mediator and taking care of the neglected children.
