The Tides of Barnegat plot

Jane Cogden and her sister Lucy live together. Jane has two admirers, John Cavendish, the village doctor, and Bart Holt, the son of an old sea captain. Jane does not respond to Bart's advances, so he turns to Lucy. The two get separated from the others while sailing with a group and are stranded on an island. When they return in the morning, Bart receives the news that he has to go on a three-month cruise. Lucy becomes frightened and tells her sister the story. The next day Jane goes straight to Bart's father and demands that Bart marry Lucy.
