The Sound of One Hand Clapping plot

"A child without a past - a mother without a future - a story about love."

Tasmania, 1954. Slovenian migrant Melita leaves her husband and young daughter, Sonja. However, Sonja's troubled father persists in his new life in a new country, but soon he falls into a desperate alcohol addiction and at the first opportunity Sonja gets, she too abandons him. Almost 20 years later, alone and pregnant, she returns to the highlands of Tasmania and to her father in an attempt to put the pieces of her life back together.
