The film tells the story of the life and passion of the Compsons, a once proud family from the American South who find themselves in a tragic spiral of loss and setback. For thirty-three-year-old, retarded Benjy, three decades of memories of his sister as a warm, nurturing mother figure form an overwhelming kaleidoscope. The sensitive Quentin roams the run-down suburbs of Boston as a college student, haunted by the disgrace his sister has caused — and how he should have saved his family's honour. Bitter, heartless Jason is filled with a deep hatred for his illustrious ancestors in general and his estranged sister in particular.
