The Silence of Dean Maitland plot

A young preacher, Cyril Maitland, falls in love with the beautiful young vamp Alma Lee in a seaside town. He is engaged to another woman, but Alma becomes pregnant. When her father, Ben, finds out, he attacks the pastor and he is killed in a fall. Maitland's best friend, Dr. Henry Everard, is blamed, but neither Alma nor Maitland speak plainly to exonerate him. Everard spends the next 20 years in jail while Mailtland grows into a noted writer and bishop. Once released from prison, Everard sets out to kill the man who ruined his entire life.
