The Salamander plot
When Dore Baxter, a nymph raised in the countryside, asks her grandmother about her parents' deaths, she learns of the evil Albert Sassoon, nicknamed "The Wolf." According to the old woman, Sassoon stole her parents' money, caused their deaths, and forced her to take Dore to Lost Mountain. After recounting the story, the grandmother gets up to look for the deed to the valuable mountain property, but discovers it missing and collapses dead from fright. The orphaned Dore sets off for the city to track down Sassoon. Along the way, she becomes involved with a traveling company and falls in love with Garry Lindaberry, who is both the "angel" of the company and a handsome millionaire.
