The Ruling Passion plot

Claire was born in the London slums, but after her mother's death, she left for India to live with her aunt. There she met Harvey Walcott, aide-de-camp to the governor of an Indian province, and they were drawn to each other. Their married life was happy until Claire's beauty attracted Prince Ram Singh, the Rajah of Mawar. The prince possessed the power of hypnosis, and when he discovered that Claire refused to heed his advances, he used his unusual powers to make her do his bidding. Under the prince's influence, Claire seemed to encourage his advances until her husband rejected her.
